by Double Bah!! 8/23/99 7:29:52 PM I tell ya, UO and EQ has done so much to KILL MMORPG PvP it’s just simply mind boggling. Actual PvP has taken a back seat to PKing. Now don’t get me wrong, I enjoy killing my fellow MMORPGer just as much as the next guy...if not more. The problem I have is I can’t stand single player games and I can’t stand all the crap that goes along with them (leveling, item hunting). I’ve played enough CORPGs to choke a horse. I’ve killed my fill of stupid AI creatures. And alternatively I am sick of killing people who are unable or unwilling to defend themselves. It’s gotten to the point where I walk up on someone and tell them to med up and prep up because I’m gonna kill em. They usually just run and I’m too damn old to bother chasing after em. It’s fun for 10 minutes then it gets boring. I want PvP back dammit. I want strategic, tactical, skilled PvP where people on both sides actually fight rather than one side running while the other side kills. I’m sick of slaughtering sheep and all EQ and UO have are loot worried sheep. You want to know why EQ and UO have turned into a PK festival while sweeping PvP under the doormat? Well one reason is the crappy combat system but that’s another gripe for another time....another huge reason is because of looting. Most people are wusses but greedy opportunistic wusses. Most people will not fight when presented with even odds, hell most people will not fight unless you lay down for them. But they sure as hell will kill you the instant you are defenseless or almost dead. 99.9% of the time the sole reason they do this is for loot. I sure as hell don’t get a charge out of blasting someone who has 5 hit points left (it may be because I’ve done it 10,000 times ;pp). Big deal I learned how to push the F1 key. Sense of loss, bah, EQ and UO born so called PvPers don’t know what a sense of loss is. Where I grew up with PvP if you wanted a sense of loss you would fight someone in the Death Match Chamber. Two people go in but only one person comes out. If you lost your character is DEAD, GONE. If you recreated another character with the same name you were ridiculed for the wuss you are by the rest of the gamers. Usually it was for a good reason, going in the chamber, and it wasn’t for the light at heart. Now I’m not saying there should be permanent death, what I am saying is sense of loss is what the players make of it and looting is just a salt lick for PKing. PKing is the cancer of true PvP. The UO and EQ mentality of “you win some, you lose some....just go get 20 friends to kill the fool and take his loot!” is a joke. When you win a fight in a game that requires skill then wining it means something and you don’t need any freaking loot to prove it. Loot means jack, that’s no sense of loss. A sense of loss is someone beating someone elses face in every time they see them with no hope of ever exacting retribution because you don’t have the SKILL required to do so. Follow Ups:
